Snowmobile Hall of Famer Joey Hallstrom Joins X RACING for 2027 Season
Thirty-plus year industry veteran brings big skills, experience to the team
ELK RIVER, Minnesota (Nov. 2, 2026) — Officials at X RACING have announced a new member of its team for the 2027 season, one with a strong resume in snowmobile competition and the sport overall. Former Arctic Cat racer and team manager Joel “Joey” Hallstrom brings a lot to the table.
Hallstrom has been involved with just about every aspect of snowmobiling. From enhancing safety, to machine design, working with racers and manufacturers and promoting the sport itself, he's done and seen it all. He's been through the sport's good and bad times, just like X RACING.
“Joey has the same passion in his blood for the snowmobile community and snowmobile racing as we do,” X RACING president Joe Duncan said. “He'll focus on expanding participation in our Youth & Family programs, with a sharp eye towards safety. That is critical for us as we look to the future.
“In fact, Joey comes on board as a 'Future of X RACING Coordinator.' He's always thinking about the big picture. I know he can help steer X RACING into the future of building snowmobile racing and the sport overall. It's an honor to have him as part of our team.”
Hallstrom is as enthusiastic about his new role as he's been in every job he's ever held in snowmobiling.
“I'm looking forward to joining X RACING thanks to the vision Joe Duncan has for Amateur Racing.” Hallstrom said. “The best times of my life have been when it's a family affair at this level. It is rewarding to see kids having fun on snowmobiles.”
With his background in racing, Hallstrom brings a renewed enthusiasm to the overall program.
“I went down to one of Joe's races at Steeplechase last winter,” Hallstrom added. “That's a great facility for sled racing, and I had a blast. I love the concept he has for keeping racing affordable, accessible and still very competitive at the Grassroots level. He's on the right track for the sport's future.
“Having classes for older sleds, building tracks that are 'tamed down' a little yet still fun for racers, and making sure everybody gets a couple of chances to race each day is what will keep our sport alive. If we don't control costs, we'll lose this thing. I'm very excited to meet with Joe soon to discuss my role.”
Hallstrom's resume in snowmobiling could fill volumes. He was inducted into the Snowmobile Hall of Fame in 2012 for his huge impact on the sport. He built the Team Arctic Racing Program into a winning powerhouse; and helped launch the iconic Jeep 500 Cross Country race in 1987.
Thanks to his experience, Hallstrom also had a big influence in the design of several Arctic Cat snowmobile models. The iconic 1990 EXT Special, the JAG and the legendary ZR model line were examples of great sleds in which Hallstrom played a role in their success stories.
